Old and Young Generation of Journalists Gather Around the Same Table

JWF Women’s Platform organized a dinner on January, 16 for “master” and “young” journalists to contribute the transaction of experience and to provide a little break to in their busy work schedule. Turkish doyenne and ‘new’ woman journalists including Nihal Bengisu Karaca from Haberturk, Sibel Eraslan from Star, Esra Yalazan from Taraf, Ayca Orer from Radikal, Leyla Ipekci from Zaman shared their experiences. And Nuriye Ozen Toraman was the anchor of the program.

In her speech, Women’s Platform Secretary General Muserref Ozer said “Technology and internet is bringing a new media system. And we wanted to bring young journalists ‘growing up’ in this new system and doyennes together with this organization”.

Among the guests, Nihal Bengisu Karaca talked about the difficulties of her job and how she dealt with them in her first years. She also mentioned expectations from a woman journalist in this field and how the news made by women was received as if ‘surprising’ when their news was about other than family and children.

Journalists generally commented on the role of woman in journalism during the dinner. Dinner took place in a historical cistern, Sultan Sarnic, and Aslihan Erkisi created a very peaceful and colorful atmosphere with her singing of Turkish classical music.
